Joseph-Simon Savard – Marie-Josephte Morel (m1)
Joseph-Simon Savard – Catherine Dallaire (m2)
Joseph Simon was the son of Jean Savard and Marguerite Tremblay. According to Tanguay he was born about 1689.
Joseph-Simon married Marie-Josephte Morel, daughter of Guillaume Morel and Catherine Pelletier on July 27th, 1711 at Sainte-Anne de Beaupre. They headed towards Baie Saint-Paul and eventually settled on the Ile aux Coudres around 1720. According to the marginal notes in the first parish register of the island, the first child born on the island was this couple’s child, Brigitte Savard.
Seven months after Marie-Josephte died on March 12, 1727, Joseph-Simon married Catherine Dallaire. This marriage occurred on the 16th of October, 1727 at Saint-Francois on the Ile d’Orleans. Catherine was the widow of Joseph Lavoie.
The majority of the Savards of Charlevoix and Saguenay are descendents of Joseph-Simon. He had eight children through his first marriage and six children through his second marriage.
Joseph-Simon was a captain in the militia and a ship’s pilot. There is a ferry boat named after this pioneer, the N.M. JOSEPH-SAVARD that runs between St-Joseph-de-la-Rive and île-aux-Coudres, Charlevoix, Québec, Canada
Joseph-Simon Savard died of the pox and was buried on September 20, 1755, along with five others who had also succumbed to this disease.
